It started as a tradition some time ago. On March 25th, the people of Sweden celebrate Vårfrudagen (“Our Lady’s Day”), a religious holiday nine months before Christmas. World Waffle Day got started because the word Vårfrudagen sounds similar to the Swedish word for waffle (Våffeldagen). Because the two words sound so similar, people started celebrating Vårfrudagen by having waffles. The trend took off and soon the rest of the world followed behind. Hence, World Waffle Day was born!
